Police say two passengers were shot dead in the Philippines, after gunmen stopped the vehicle they were riding in. Investigators are working on uncovering possible motives. According to police, an American and his Filipino companion were killed in an ambush in the southern Philippine province of Lanao del Norte on Monday. Police identified the American as Steve Kindy. The victims, employees of an Internet cafe, were riding a passenger jeepney when they were stopped by two gunmen in Iligan City. The female companion was wounded in the shooting. The three were rushed to a hospital, but the American and Filipino were declared dead-on-arrival. Police said the American’s possible womanizing could have led to a motive. They were also considering a Koran-burning angle. [Bernardo Reamon, Senior Superintendent]: “We are looking at two angles. The first is if there is a connection to a statement regarding the burning of a Koran. Secondly we are looking at a probable love triangle.” The incident was followed by another attack on a foreigner, a British ship captain who was shot on Tuesday while driving in Angeles City, north of Manila.
